A key part of the therapeutic process is to encourage our clients to get out of their comfort zones. At times we are referring to their emotional comfort zones, and at other times we are literally wanting them to explore their environment. Creating new patterns of behavior and practicing mindfulness, even exposing themselves to new adventures is in fact therapeutic. In support of this encouragement to explore, we are launching a new series of mental health resource materials to support our local communities. The 4 Perspectives’ clinics are nestled into the communities of Highland, Brighton, Fenton and Lansing, Michigan. In an effort to inspire some self-care, adventure, unique dates for couples and family fun, we are providing a list of our favorite things to do in our hometown communities. Let’s begin with the lovely Highland Michigan!
In this graphic– now available in print at each of our clinics– we introduce mindfulness: what it means and some tips on easily incorporating it into our everyday lives. One aspect of mindfulness, at least I would argue, is gratitude. Gratitude is being mindful of what has manifested into your life and not taking it for granted.
As a self-proclaimed city girl myself, sometimes rural-Michigan living can seem a little boring, making it difficult to escape the mundanity of a daily routine. However, that mundanity is a choice. Every day, an opportunity awaits, and there are always new places to explore no matter where you live!
Now that the summertime is near, I’ve compiled a list of local things to do for when you have a day off near Highland, Michigan– home to one of Perspectives Therapy Services’ four counseling clinics. (Actually, our clinic is right on the border of Highland and Milford; our wonderful clients come from many Western Oakland County communities). My choices are broken down into three categories to best fit your situation: date scenes, family friendly, and fun places to go solo!
